King's Cross FAQ

Who can live at Nido?
We accommodate students from any university, but you should be a student who is taking a full-time course of study in London, a student on an organised study abroad programme, a student enrolled full-time in a language school, or a student conducting a work placement course as part of a degree-granting programme and you must be 18 or over.

What is the contract length?
At Nido King's Cross we offer 43-week and 51-week contracts from the start of September. Short term stays, at a minimum of 4 weeks are available during the summer months from June until the end of August. Please be sure to check the cancellation policy when booking online.

Are linen and kitchen essentials included in my room?
No, you will need to provide your own linen, duvet, pillows and kitchen crockery, pans, pots etc. Or you can make your lives easy and buy these through us - we will make sure that your room is ready for you with all you ordered on arrival.

What documents do I need in order to check-in?
You will be required to show proof of studies from your university by way of your acceptance letter. You will also need to send us a passport photo for your key card ID and a photocopy of your passport (and Visa if required) for identification. We will need to receive all of this prior to check in and it can be sent electronically. You will also need to have signed your contract with us prior to check-in.

What do I need to pay before arrival?
You will need to pay a £50 non-refundable application fee; this is only refundable if we do not have a room available as detailed in your booking request. Thereafter you will need to pay a 4-week refundable damage deposit and 4 weeks rent to secure the room with us. The remaining fees for your stay are then divided into 2 instalments, the first of which is due prior to check in and the second of which is due in February of the following year if you have booked a long-term contract with us. Should you wish to pay your entire bill prior to arrival, you will receive 2% of the accommodation value onto your cashless account.

Will I have internet in my room?
Internet access is included in the room rate. Residents have broadband access in their rooms and there is wireless access in the communal areas. You will need to bring a cable to connect to the internet in your room.

What are the guest policies?
You are permitted 3 day guests between the hours of 8am and midnight. You are also entitled to 8 overnight guest stays a month; this can be taken all in a row or spread across the month. However, residents are not permitted more than one overnight guest at any one time and guests must be 18 years of age or over. All visitors must have ID with them or they will not be given access to the residence.

Will my room be cleaned?
We can offer you a full room clean for £25 by a member of our housekeeping staff. Please check with a member of staff when you check-in.

What's not included?
You are responsible for the cleaning of your room and purchasing your bed linen, towels and kitchen equipment/utensils, though you can buy them through the Nido Store. The laundry is also a pay-per-use basis.

Will I have a TV in-room?
Televisions are not provided in-room but students are able to hire one for £10 a month which connects to a centralised cable system. Students who take this option have the responsibility to purchase a TV license.

Will I have a phone in-room?
Should students wish, they can set up a phone in-room to make and receive external calls for £10 per month plus the cost of VOIP calls.

Do you have laundry and what does it cost?
Yes, we have several washers and dryers. It is £3 per wash and £2 per use of the dryer.

Can I change my room after I move in if I don’t like it?
Yes, provided there is still space available and you have a valid reason. Bear in mind different rooms are offered at different prices. It may be that you'd have to pay a different rate to occupy a different room.

What happens if I lose my key or get locked out of my room?
A student’s key card provides them with access into the building, their rooms and cashless account. If students lose their key card they will need to pay £15 for a new one. Should students lock their key in their room they will have one lockout grace and thereafter a £15 lockout fee will be charged.

Is the fitness centre free to use?
Yes; residents are simply required to pay a small induction fee of £10. The induction goes through how to safely use the equipment.

Are there monthly events/activities planned for residents?
Nido has an onsite residence life coordinator and resident assistant staff for pastoral care and general well being of the students. They also organise social events and activities for students so you’ll never be shy of choice on what to do at Nido.

What happens if my light bulb needs replacing?
At Nido we have a full maintenance team at hand for all maintenance issues you may have in your room or the communal areas. We even have an online system that you can use to report issues.
