Nido's Green Agenda

@22 Green image

Nido 22 @district in Barcelona will use a new and unique way of collecting refuse. Waste disposal points are fixed in the area and waste is suctioned into a central location under the city and recycled.  The advantages of this innovative refuse collection system are the reduction in traffic, with the subsequent reduction in contamination and noise, the fact that the openings of the rubbish disposal points can be used at any time, that it does not cause a smell, and that it improves the visual impact of the city.

Nido Barcelona will also be using energy sourced from a centralised facility in Barcelona called Districlima.  This reuses steam from the generating process to provide hot water on a grid system to parts of Barcelona that Nido is located within.  Furthermore the steam is also used to provide chilled water to Nido.  As a result Nido is able to function without any inhouse boilers or chillers.  This centralised system is highly efficient and reduces wastage between buildings in Barcelona, thus reducing the Carbon emissions of Nido Barcelona and other buildings in the area.

Once built it will follow in the footsteps of other Nido buildings in London with regards to internal Green Agenda procedures available to students and staff. To learn more about what is currently being done at Nido King's Cross in London click here.
