Green Nido
Nido Student Living takes the environment very seriously and has set up a Green Agenda. This is both for students and staff members can work to monitor and reduce Nido's environmental impact. The aims of our program are:
Reduce - minimise waste and energy use
Reuse - as many items as possible within the building
Recycle - as much waste as possible
At each of our Nido branches, we have recycling provisions which include textile and battery recycling, general waste as well as paper, glass, plastics etc. We have flow restricted shower-heads to conserve water and all of our service providers are ISO accredited.
We have received an ISO 14001:2004 accreditation and our Kings Cross building has been rated "B" (on an A to G scale) of environmental design. Nido won the Green Apple Environment Award in the national campaign to find Britain’s greenest companies, councils and communities. Read more about the award here.
Our commitment to being environmentally responsible goes beyond just recycling. We attempt to make our residents more aware of their impact on the environment, and aim to consequently influence the decisions they make as consumers. To that end, we encourage the notion of "Precycling" - which simply is having consumers consider the necessity and impact of what they are buying before buying it, and over time, turning individuals into more conscientious consumers.
We also encourage the donation of used or unwanted clothing, shoes, household goods and bedding; extending the lives of these items. There is a collection rack at the Nido buildings and every few weeks our Housekeeping team collect, launder (if necessary) and donate those items to charitable organisations.
